How it all began
A sexually explicit text message may have been the spark that ignited the altercation between Chris and Rihanna… New reports say Chris got a text message from a woman about hooking up with while he was driving with Rihanna. That’s when Rihanna reportedly slapped Chris, he pulled over, she grabbed the keys, tossed them out of the window, and the violence got worse. Meanwhile, I now hear that Chris is in Las Vegas staying at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Could the LAPD charge Chris with attempted murder??
Still recovering

A doctor from L.A. has flown to Brazil to oversee the medical treatment of Tameka Raymond. She is still hospitalizatized for complications from plastic surgery last week. Tameka went into cardiac and respiratory arrest after complications with anesthesia– she was getting lipo at the time. Unresponsive, she was placed in an induced coma for 24 hours. So far no comment from Usher about this situation
Performance on lay-a-way

Ne-Yo is being sued for taking some $$ and then breaking out. A Washington

Behind the music?

Did Jay-Z and Damon Dash fall out over Aaliyah? That’s the word according to producer/director Choke No Joke. Check out the old pics below… What do you think?

(That’s Kidada Jones on the far right, Quincy’s Jones’ daughter and Tupac’s ex-girlfriend)

Breakup
Is the love lost between Kelly Rowland and her second Dad/ manager Matthew Knowles? Bossip reports that after years of weak management in the shodow of Beyonce, Kelly has fired Papa. The site says there was a big argument and when it was all said and done their business releationship was a wrap. Matthew has managed Kelly’s career since she was a little girl starting with Beyonce in “Gyrls Time”.
Cool points lost

An embarrassing moment for Fabo. He was having dinner with some friends in NYC recently- poppin’ bottles and what not, when his credit card was declined—not once but five times when it was time to pay up the tab. That’s when Fabulous had one of his boys head to the car to get cash for the bill—then he got into a fight with the outside bouncer. The homey then reportedly tripped and fell, hitting his head on the concrete and started bleeding. The manager called an ambulance. But as soon as the entourage member saw the police, who came along with EMTs, “he began running away, blood oozing down his face.” No word on how or if the bill ever got paid.

I already have my ticket reserved

Maybe Michael Jackson isn’t done yet. He may have a new career on Broadway. A producer plans to bring M.Jac’s super hit Thriller to Broadway. According to reports, James L. Nederlander has purchased the rights for a stage version of one of the biggest pop hits ever using songs from both Thriller and Off The Wall—this is gonna be big. “The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theater and musical excellence, so let the music begin,” Tohme Tohme, a spokesman for Jackson, said in a statement. “I love the idea of making Thriller a musical. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what?” said Nederlander.

It’s the gift that just keeps giving
Someone bought Suge Knight’s underwear for the cool price of 1 dollar—that’s marked down from 5 bucks. The draws were part of an auction of Death Row’s assets that took place over the weekend. Wideawake Productions purchased Suge Knight’s former label for 18 Million dollars a few weeks ago, and as a result also copped some MTV Moonmen, a Source Award that belonged to Snoop, a picture of Suge and Tupac, and some unreleased Death Row recordings. Meanwhile, Suge is being sued by his former lawyers for almost 7 million dollars because they say as a result of his “gangster style” business dealings, it was hard for them to get a hold of Death Row’s assets for the sale of the company.
Rocko is about to be loco up…
He pleaded no contest to the charge of assaulting an unnamed woman in a Georgia nightclub back in Feb 2007. The woman’s hair was pulled and she was punched in the face resulting in a black eye and broken blood vessels.
Monica’s fiancé and baby’s father will spend just 48 hours in jail, and then will have 12 months probation, and multiple hours of community service.Major

You’re big when you get parts in major Hollywood blockbusters, without the first audition, and or acting role. Word is Rihanna could be the new Charlie’s Angel. Drew Barrymore’s production company is working on a new installment to the
multi-million dollar franchise, and Rhi-Rhi could join Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the next film. Rhianna is also rumored to be in the Last Dragon remake as Laura Charles with Samuel Jackson as Shonuff.Delayed

Because millions of American households, especially Black and Latino homes are still not ready for the DTV switch, the Senate voted yesterday to postpone the transition from Feb 17th to June 12th. The House still has to vote but it is expected to pass.

Don’t mess with Mama Obama…
The First Lady isn’t feeling the love for two dolls named “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia”. Beanie Babies creator Ty Incorporated put the Sasha and Malia dolls on sale this month. A spokeswoman for the First Lady says, “We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes.” A Ty spokeswoman is backing away from an earlier statement that the dolls were created with the first daughters in mind, saying, “They were not designed to look like any living person. Somehow there was a misunderstanding.–
While I do understand that Mrs. Obama may not approve of the use of her daughters’ names and images for financial gain, I will say that I am so happy to see two little black girls as new positive role models for other little girls around the world. 20 years ago, how many black dolls did we see in Toys R US? Sure, we could get a black Barbie or Cabbage Patch Doll, but sometimes, depending on where you lived they were hard to find. AND you would never see a little white, asian, or hispanic girl playing with a black doll baby. The bottom line is this; the Obama’s are not perfect, but they are a beautiful family, and the entire world will be fascinated with President Barack Obama, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha for the rest of their lives and beyond.
Whew, just had to get that out. In other thoughts, I was wondering what other famous kids could be made into super cute dolls. Here are my top 5

1. Willow Smith

2. Surri Cruise

3. Shiloh Joile Pitt

4. Zahara Jolie Pitt

5. Nahla Berry
Speaking of marketing the Obama family…

A Chia Obama head? Really??
Is Madea not paying her bills?

Six construction firms have filed liens against Tyler Perry’s house and new movie studio… Court papers show he owes just about $200,000. The contractors say Perry ordered work redone on impulse and he has refused to pay up the balance owed for their work. Perry says that he paid the workers amply for some of the work, but much of it just was not good enough. He adds “There’s a Tyler Perry tax that’s put on things…I’ve seen the worst of what people can be, the worst of what family members can be. I pride myself on taking care of my business. I pride myself on being able to pay the bills…I’m not sympathetic to anybody who’s trying to rip me off. Just because I’m a Christian, just because I’m a nice guy, it doesn’t mean I’m a wimp.”
Awarded

The late Heath Ledger may be a step closer to winning an Oscar. Last night, Ledger got best-supporting actor honors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Overall cast honors go to “Slumdog Millionaire.” - AP

A new job for J-D…

Jermaine Dupri is reportedly heading up Sony Columbia’s urban division. Dupri split from Island Def Jam Records, after an alleged rift with president LA Reid. While there J-D served as the President of the Island Def Jam urban division.
No more booty in The Source…

Can you believe this? The source magazine, has announced that the magazine will no longer accept sexually explicit advertising for pornographic films, pornographic websites or escort services… Those spots usually take up more than half the ad space in its pages. The publisher hopes to gain the business of major sponsors like Coca-Cola, McDonalds, technology and high fashion designers by dropping the raunchy, seedy ads.
New Pac tracks coming soon…

Wideawake Entertainment Group has purchased Death Row’s assets, including unreleased tracks from Tupac and Dr. Dre, for $18 million. With the purchase, the company gets the master recordings of Tupac, Snoop, Dr. Dre, and others. The company plans to release even more new music by Tupac… Tupac says he’s pleased with the sale.
Fashion Police

Although he’s a fashionable guy– Andre 3000’s clothing line isn’t so cool. The Benjamin Bixby clothing line has had to dramatically drop prices in order to sell inventory.
The new Eminem?

Retired actor Joaquin Phoenix left Hollywood for the world of hip-hop. He has enlisted Diddy to help him be the hottest thing on the mic. The dynamic duo has been spotted out and about together getting ready for the new MC Phoenix. Joaquin’s late brother River was a member of the rock group until his untimely death in 1993.
New baby alert…

Bossip reports the T-I’s girlfriend Tiny is prenant again. They just had a baby last year. Bossip also reports that there is a rumored beef brewing between T.I. and Floyd Mayweather because he’s continually trying to hit on Tiny.

Sanging for the Prez….

Beyonce will have her time to shine at the inauguration of Barack Obama. She has been selected to sing for the presidential first dance between Barack Obama and wife Michelle on Tuesday night in Washington, D-C. She’ll also perform at the Neighborhood Ball on Tuesday night along with Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Sting Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys.
Hip-Hop activity

If you are in DC tonight, you and you have a ticket, you can catch the The Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts. The program will be hosted by Russell Simmons, and features performances by T-I, L-L Cool J, Akon, Mos Def, and Young Jeezy.
It’s on

(LMAO at the pic, looking like they just went to darn near blows in the limo before they got to the VMA’s)
The War of the Wades… Dwayne Wade’s divorce from his estranged wife is getting ugly. The NBA superstar with the squeaky clean image is about to be put on blast if his ex Siohvaughn has anything to do with it. Wade filed for divorce in May of 2007. Siohvaughn says Dwayne “abandoned his children, committed adultery, and infected her with an unspecified sexually transmitted disease,” Siohvaughn alleges in legal papers. She wants the names of “all of his sexual partners” during their six-year marriage. The couple has 2 children, but Siohvaughn says Dwayne has been far from the model Dad he is believed to be. Despite being named a “Father of the Year” in 2007 by the National Father’s Day Committee, she says he has gone “months” without seeing his boy. His “failure to spend time with them … has resulted in the children at times being afraid of him; in fact, Zion … does not recognize or know Dwayne.” Siohvaughn also says Dwayne gave millions to people outside their marriage. Including buying his mother a $2 million church; placing substantial sums of money in an account with another woman; providing numerous friends and family members with unfettered access to accounts with hundreds of thousands of dollars of marital funds from which they made substantial withdrawals. She also says she has suffered “grievous physical, emotional and mental injury” from the STD, diagnosed in the fall of ‘07.” The couple wed in Chicago on May 18, 2002. They were high school sweethearts. Dwayne is alleged to now be living with Gabrielle Union in Miami. Who shot ya?

If you were one of many who ran to see “Notorious” over the weekend be glad you didn’t go to this after party… Four men were stabbed at what was billed as the official after-party for the premiere of “Notorious” in Brooklyn early Saturday morning. Three of the victims were listed in stable condition over the weekend, while the fourth was in critical condition with multiple stab wounds. A spokesman for Fox Searchlight Pictures called the stabbings “an unfortunate and isolated incident, but there is no connection to the filmmakers or the studio. How did the movie do at the box office over the weekend? Not bad. “Notorious” came in fourth, taking in $21.5 million dollars. It’s the biggest opening ever for its studio, Fox Searchlight. The number one movie is Kevin James’ “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” followed by “Gran Torino” and “My Bloody Valentine.”
Hired

Ladies, you may want to start watching the office… Because my favorite British import is joining the cast. Idris Elba has been hired to work in “The Office” office. Details are slim about his character’s plotline, other than he’ll play a no-nonsense hire at a corporate office. “The Office” airs Thursday nights at 9 on NBC.

Me and Angela Bassett after our interview
This is it. Today “Notorious”, the film about the life and times of Christopher Wallace hits theaters. Last month I traveled to N.Y. to watch a sneak preview of the movie, and to interview the cast. Trust me when I say- go see this movie. It’s well written, directed, and well played by the entire cast. The film takes us on a journey through the life of Biggie- starting with him as a child in Brooklyn (played by his son C.J.), then onto him selling drugs and hiding it from his Mother as a teenager– to him rapping in his Bed Sty neighborhood, to him meeting Pufy- the man who changed his life. We also get insight into his relationship with Lil Kim- love and hate. And we see how quickly and hard he fell for Faith Evans. If you ever wondered if Biggie and Tupac were really friends– the answer is yes. And you will learn how a misunderstanding ultimately lead to their demise. With outstanding and believable performances by Jamal Wollard, and Nautri Naughton and a soundtrack that defines the era- “Notorious” is a sure hit. Don’t miss it.

Check out my one on one interview with the super fine Derek Luke

After I got over the shock of meeting Angela Bassett, and the groupie breakdown I had speaking with Derek Luke, I spent some time in Manhatten with my Homeboy Dub of Q97 in Fresno, California.

Oh, and I had to show you my hotel room. This is the W on Lexington.
